Expedition leader and SOI founder Geoff Green briefs the team on what to expect in the coming days in the hangar on the Polar Prince.

Meeting You Where You Are

Youth leadership is at the heart of every SOI expedition. We believe that young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow—you’re leaders right now. Our goal is to help you discover your voice, connect with the natural world, learn from incredible knowledge holders, and feel confident using your skills and passions to shape a more sustainable future.

What Does Leadership Look Like?

Youth leadership on expedition means stepping up in ways that feel authentic to you, whether that’s helping support your peers, contributing your ideas during activities, or taking initiative when the group needs direction. It’s about practicing confidence, collaboration, and communication in a real-world setting, learning when to lead and when to listen, and recognizing the strengths you bring to the community. Throughout the journey, you’ll have opportunities to guide group discussions, help create a positive team environment, and take part in decision-making that shapes the expedition experience. Most importantly, youth leadership is about growing your ability to make thoughtful choices, support others, and use your voice to create positive impact both during the expedition and back home in your community. There are no links or assignments in this section, but we invite you to pause and reflect:

1. What matters most to you?

2. What does your community care about?

3. What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

4. What perspectives, stories, or ideas do you want to share?

Leadership Can Happen Anywhere

Throughout the expedition, you’ll have space and encouragement to step forward and lead in whatever way feels right for you. Sharing your perspective, leading conversations, or making hard decisions doesn’t have to be formal or scheduled—just like our days, leadership is dynamic. It can happen in small, everyday moments—during a conversation on deck, while exploring the shoreline, or while reflecting with your peers.

You already have something meaningful to contribute. We’re here to support you, cheer you on, and help amplify your voice every step of the way.
