Blue Futures Pathways, an initiative of the SOI Foundation, is a bilingual program that connects young people aged 15-35 with education, employment and funding opportunities that inspire and support them in exploring successful careers in the emerging Sustainable Blue Economy.
In line with SOI’s mandate, Blue Futures Pathways (BFP) places particular emphasis on under-represented and Indigenous young people, and activities that support those in remote and rural areas. BFP also offers partner organizations a platform to communicate opportunities, as well as support to employers and educators wishing to engage and retain young people along their pathways.
BFP is an officially endorsed action of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
The Portal for Opportunities, Resources and Talent (PORT) is the digital one-stop shop for the Blue Futures Pathways program. Click below to learn about Phases I, II & III and check back often for interactive learning resources, inspiring stories, jobs, wage subsidies, stipends and more.
The Sustainable Blue Economy is vast and encompasses the three pillars of sustainability: socio-cultural, environmental and economic. Whether you are studying, teaching, or simply curious, take a deep dive into our learning resources.
There are many ways to be involved in the Sustainable Blue Economy. We share stories of young people highlighting how their various interests and activities can contribute to Canada’s ocean, fresh water, wastewater and ice sectors in meaningful ways. The stories also showcase the employers and programs that offer opportunities to young people.
