Welcome!

The Educator Compass is your spot to find all of the important pre-expedition information you’ll need to read and complete before our journey! Think of it as our digital base camp. Everything you need to know leading up to departure will be posted here—be sure to check back frequently for updates.

Expedition Registration

Start Here: The registration form is where we collect all the important information we need to make your expedition run smoothly—from flights to meals and everything in between. Completing the form is mandatory and should be done as soon as possible.

You’ll be asked to provide health and safety info, details to book your travel, consent to participate, and any other relevant documents. Take your time to review everything carefully, and don’t worry—you can save your progress as you go.

If you have any questions while filling it out, just reach out to us at apply@soifoundation.org. We’re happy to help!

Logistics

This section brings together everything you need to know about how we get from home to expedition—and back again. We’ll walk you through what to expect before we set sail, including to-dos, pre-expedition programming, travel planning, and important arrival and departure dates. You’ll learn about our sailing route, the communities and places we’ll visit along the way.

Onboard Essentials

The pages ahead contain your full orientation package, which is your guide to everything you need to know before the expedition. It’s important to read it carefully because it covers info about what to expect, the vessel, daily routines, and all the rules and protocols that help keep everyone safe and supported. Inside, you’ll learn about a day in the life of an expedition participant, life on the ship, what to pack, and the guidelines for respect, inclusion, and general conduct that apply to everyone. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at expedition@soifoundation.org.

Expedition Briefing

The following pages will help you consider how to make learning accessible, tangible, and relevant for our youth participants. We’ll cover expectations, keys to success, and how we support youth as a member of the education team. Of course, this won’t cover absolutely everything, but it’s a great base of information to start with!

The Face Booklet

We’ll have a printed copy of the Face Booklet for you upon your arrival (think of it as a yearbook), but you can get to know your shipmates ahead of time! Learn about all the people you’ll meet soon—the Expedition Team, Education Team, Media Team, Ship Team, Health Team, and of course, the cohort of youth participants!
