The Power of Youth
SOI believes in the immeasurable power of youth voices and action to bring about positive change. Our world faces numerous challenges, and there can be no doubt that youth are critical to creating a healthy, more sustainable tomorrow. Our educational focus has expanded from leading educational expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic for youth, but our purpose remains the same. We believe that only by connecting youth with the knowledge, people, and resources that enable them to be part of the solution can we succeed in building a future that benefits both people and the planet. From expeditions to youth leadership opportunities and careers, SOI offers a number of programs to support youth. Explore them below.
Impact Your Community
Expedition to Community (E2C) is a youth-led service program that is grounded in and supported by community. E2C inspires participants aged 15 through 30 to collectively consider the needs of their communities and work together to find solutions, offer support, and build programs that are for youth and by youth.
Since 2019, the E2C program has consistently engaged Canadian youth in service opportunities across Inuit Nunangat. Through inspiration, training, mentoring, and financial support, Local Community Coordinators and Local Youth Councils are given the tools to engage youth, elders, and key community leaders. Together, they envision future-focused opportunities designed to support the individual needs of their communities.

Get Involved in the Sustainable Blue Economy
Blue Futures Pathways connects youth across Canada with education, employment, and funding opportunities that inspire and support them in developing successful careers in the Sustainable Blue Economy. The Sustainable Blue Economy spans ice, marine, and water sectors from coast to coast to coast and presents endless job opportunities ranging from coding and big data management to sustainable harvesting and renewable energy. Students on Ice Expeditions take youth from around the world on unforgettable journeys to the Arctic, Antarctic, and many places in between. Immersed in nature, youth are introduced to topics related to these regions across science, history, policy, art and culture. Each journey brings together extraordinary teams of global youth for climate change, scientists, educators and visionary leaders to learn from one another. The outcome is an experience that changes perspectives and inspires initiatives that inevitably benefit our world.
