COP, the Conference of Parties, is the name given to the United Nations Climate Change Conferences. This annual conference is designed to bring together NGOs, government officials, and climate activists. The goal is to review progress made by members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to address climate change. COP27 has been deemed the “Climate Justice COP.” The conference is being hosted in Egypt, marking just the fifth time COP has taken place in an African Country. Some of the themes for this year’s conference include taking ambitious action, climate loss and damages, policy change and human rights.
SOI will be attending the conference with a group of delegates, supported by Youth Climate Lab, to share young Canadian leaders’ perspectives on climate change. This will provide our delegates the opportunity to network with both Canadian climate organizations and like-minded climate advocates from across the globe. They will engage with international climate policy, experience high-level negotiations and learn about the urgent actions needed to meet global emissions reduction targets. Our delegates will also have the opportunity to share their perspectives at COP27 panels and side events.
