Micro-certification Program

Leadership in the Sustainable Blue Economy

Blue Futures Pathways and Mitacs have teamed up with the University of British Columbia to offer a micro-certificate program designed to empower the next generation of leaders in the blue economy. Starting June 2026, the UBC Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries will be offering online, instructor-led non-credit micro-certificates for professionals, researchers, and learners looking to deepen their expertise in ocean science and the blue economy.

Currently, there are three standalone courses available, which form the growing Leadership in the Sustainable Blue Economy Certificate Program. Each course is developed by world-leading researchers and designed to fit into your professional schedule.

This opportunity is open to applicants worldwide with a high school diploma, providing an accessible pathway to earn a university-backed certificate from anywhere in the world.

Scholarships

Blue Futures Pathways is excited to offer 10 scholarships to help eligible applicants access these new micro-credential courses. These scholarships are specifically designed to increase equitable access for learners who face financial barriers, with priority given to Indigenous applicants and individuals from equity-deserving communities who are currently underrepresented in the ocean and water sectors.

Scholarship decisions are based on financial need, equity considerations, and alignment with our mission of fostering a diverse workforce. With only 10 grants available, we encourage you to apply while spots remain.
