A fundraiser in support of the SOI Foundation
SOI Foundation is back in New York City! Join us for an inspiring and entertaining evening at The Explorers Club on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
The evening will be hosted by Evan Solomon, Publisher GZERO Media/Eurasia Group and celebrated Canadian journalist who will help highlight the transformative work of the SOI Foundation.
Since 2000, SOI has brought together thousands of diverse youth, educators, scientists, elders, explorers, and visionary leaders from around the world on experiential ship-based expeditions in the Arctic, Antarctic, and places in between. The experience is transformative. The outcome is a global network of youth that are taking positive action in their lives on climate change, biodiversity, mental health, ocean conservation, and a healthy and sustainable future.

Guest Speaker
Isabella de la Houssaye has lived, worked and raced extensively around the world for the past forty years, initially as a lawyer, banker and competitive age group endurance athlete and for the past five years, testing the limits of the human body when afflicted with advanced cancer. She has completed ultra endurance runs across the Sahara in Libya, through the Namibian Desert, across Costa Rica and South Africa, biked across the US, the UK, Tasmania and Taiwan, from Malawi to South Africa and Amsterdam to Luxembourg and swum across the Long Island Sound and the Canal de St. Marc in Haiti. She has run over 100 marathons and completed marathons on every continent and in every US state. She has also completed more than 20 ironman races and climbed 4 of the 7 Summits—many of these feats while being treated for Stage IV non-smokers lung cancer and with her 5 children in tow. Her most recent explorations have involved testing phase 1 cancer drugs to assess their efficacy. She is dedicated to demonstrating that adventure and exploration are still possible with a stage IV cancer diagnosis.
Isabella joined her first of 4 SOI expeditions in 2007 and has been an avid supporter and believer in the SOI mission ever since. Knowing first-hand the role nature can play in teaching the life skills necessary to meet everyday challenges, she immediately embraced the SOI approach to environmental education for herself and her own children and has supported efforts to provide access to others. Together with husband David Crane, she has been involved in numerous environmental advocacy and green energy projects around the globe.
Isabella attended Princeton University and Columbia Law School. She worked for White & Case and Lehman Brothers before becoming co-owner of Material Culture, a retail establishment and auction house in Philadelphia.
Entertainment
There is a legend among the Inuit about the halo that appears around the sun. Known in some parts as siqiniup qilauta—roughly translated, “the sun’s drum,” it is a good sign; a symbol of good luck.
Siqiniup Qilauta is also the name of this evening’s entertainment. Located in Ottawa, Siqiniup Qilauta have travelled nationally and internationally demonstrating traditional and contemporary Inuit throat singing, drum dancing, and games—as well as providing interactive workshops on the history of the Inuit, and their current realities. They believe strongly in the strength and resiliency of a cultural people that moved from igloo to iPod in such a short time.
Siqiniup Qilauta enjoys sharing their culture and the many questions and interests that people have surrounding Canada’s northern people. Sharing the beauty and the strength of this dynamic culture, they hope to create a better world, full of understanding, for their children—and for all Inuit children.
