The 2026 SOI Arctic Expedition brings together a diverse international cohort of young people (aged 14 to 35), scientists, educators, elders, and artists, to connect, educate and inspire youth through immersive learning at the intersection of science, culture, and the natural world.
Aboard the MV Ocean Nova, youth will learn about Arctic cultures, history and geopolitics, and environmental issues, such as the vital connections between marine protection and coastal ecosystems. Endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, participants will partake in hands-on experiences, discover how biodiversity thrives in these regions, and learn how the health of the land, sea, and communities is intricately linked. The lessons, cultural exchange, and daily reflection will deepen understanding of ocean conservation, biodiversity, climate change, culture, and much more.
Throughout the journey, participants build confidence, friendships, critical thinking skills, and a sense of global citizenship, inspiring, empowering and connecting them with future opportunities and possibilities!

Sailing south out of Frobisher Bay, we will turn northward and sail along the east coast of Baffin Island, making numerous shore visits based on ice conditions at the time. We then cross the Davis Strait to Ilulissat and other locations along Western Greenland. We conclude our journey in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland and take our charter flight back to Ottawa.
