Inside the H2O Career Connect Day 2026 with Blue Futures Pathways

Earlier this June, the SOI Blue Futures Pathways (BFP) team made their way once again to Halifax, Nova Scotia for the 11th Anniversary of the H2O Home to Overseas Conference. Regarded as Canada’s premier event for ocean technology, the conference connects global leaders through exhibits, panels, workshops, and B2B meetings.

The conference also brings together students, early career ocean professionals (ECOPs), and job seekers looking to learn more about the broad range of opportunities in this sector. With the help of the BFP team, navigating these professional pathways became much clearer. Beyond showcasing various career options, our team aimed to foster meaningful conversations about entering the workforce and supporting youth at every stage of their journey.

One of the most highly anticipated events was Career Connect Day, a multi-session workshop hosted by the BFP team in collaboration with Dalhousie University and Pisces Oceans Inc. Designed for students exploring career options and ECOPs looking to network and develop skills, the event highlighted both linear and non-linear pathways into the Sustainable Blue Economy through interactive sessions, expert talks, and skill-building exercises.

This year’s turnout of over 60 students marked a steady increase in participants over the last few years. This growth reflects a desire among early career professionals to build their networks, explore new career opportunities, and develop the skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce.

Our team provided personalized, one-on-one support by sitting down with attendees to discuss their goals, review resumes, and look over cover letters. By doing so, our team was able to guide them on how their current skills align with Canada’s growing Sustainable Blue Economy. These conversations were particularly valuable for newcomers, many of whom already possess a formal education, professional experience, and transferable skills. Through these interactions, participants gained not only the practical tools needed to navigate the workforce, but greater confidence in their skills, merit, and capabilities.

These moments of collaboration, mentorship, and connection deeply matter. Whether it’s a meaningful conversation that helps a young professional view their skills in a new light, or forming lasting relationships with industry experts, these spaces are important. Through events like Career Connect Day, BFP remains dedicated to helping youth navigate their futures and unlock new opportunities.
