Detailed Description

Role Summary

As the Prospect Research Intern, you will contribute to Ocean Wise’s fundraising efforts by conducting research to identify and qualify prospective donors, partners, and funders. Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy & Partnerships, you will assist with data analysis and management that supports the Philanthropy & Partnerships team in creating and sustaining meaningful relationships and raising the funds we need to protect and restore the ocean.

*Please note this is a short-term contract spanning 10 weeks at 18 hours per week*

Who You Are

You are an organized and motivated emerging professional with a strong interest in research, data analysis and philanthropy. You enjoy uncovering insights, identifying patterns and connections, and preventing information in a clear and actionable way.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Conduct research on individuals, foundations, and corporations using publicly available sources, databases, and internal records.
  • Compile and summarize research findings into clear, concise prospect profiles and briefing materials for use by fundraising staff.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date prospect and donor records in Salesforce.
  • Assist with portfolio reviews, prospect lists, and other research-related projects to support fundraising strategy and stewardship activities.
  • Respond to internal research requests and support the Philanthropy & Partnerships team with ad hoc analysis as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proactive mindset and ability to work in a team, as well as to solve problems independently.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and accurately.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including comfort working with qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Assets:
    • Experience with data management or databases (e.g., Salesforce or similar CRM systems).
    • Familiarity with research methods, online research tools, or prospect research concepts.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and care.

How You Will Be Measured

  • Prospect research deliverables are thorough, accurate, and completed on time.
  • Prospect profiles and summaries are clear, well-organized, and useful to fundraising staff.
  • Salesforce records are maintained accurately and consistently.
  • You provide timely and reliable research support to team members.
  • You identify small improvements to research processes to enhance overall efficiency.

Where and How You’ll Work

Our typical work week is 37.5 hours; however, for this part-time role, you will work 18 hours per week for 10 weeks. As mentioned, this is a remote-first position with the option to work at our headquarters in downtown Vancouver. This role involves sitting, standing, working on a computer or laptop, participating in phone and video calls.
